KOMO MACHINE

The machine I ran

A KOMO five-head CNC router. I set the origins, proved out the program and cut molds, fixtures and retail display parts on it — five spindles following one file, so a mistake shows up five times on the same sheet.

LASER ETCHING

Setting the origin by hand

Those pencil marks are mine: X axis, origin X1.164 Y1.164. This is the jig that holds a part while its logo gets laser-etched, and the origin is what makes the mark land in the same place on every unit. Off by a millimetre here and the whole run is scrap.

SEPHORA DISPLAY

Five windows, one pass

A shelf tray for a Sephora lash collection, milled with five product windows in a single pass. Tolerance is the whole job on a part like this: every window has to seat its box with no visible gap once the display is built.

Cut, sorted, counted

The Razer logo cut in layers and stacked for assembly. Runs this long are where tooling decides the outcome — I replaced and sharpened worn bits to hold edge quality, and ran the basic and preventive maintenance that kept the machine in spec.

The finished gaming-audio demo unit, wired and tested on the floor before it shipped. The parts left my machine as flat panels; this is what they became.

A Bleu de Chanel counter display assembled on our own floor. Every shaped panel and letter on it started as G-code and a sheet of material under my spindle.

Installed and stocked at Mall of America, exactly as a shopper sees it. Standing in a store next to a file I cut is the part of the job I liked most.

The official Qatar 2022 World Cup ball stand — a collaboration with Adidas. Alongside the cutting I logged run data and built shift reports in Excel, and read digital work instructions at the machine.

SOFTWARE INTERFACE

The screen I worked from

A Hess Group RH2000-4MVA press — the whole cycle on one page: concrete requests, layer count, press and vibration timing. I ran these lines making paving stones to technical spec, batch after batch.

The mold and the tamper head. Every stone takes its shape here, so this is the part that has to be perfect — mold changeovers and routine maintenance were my job too, and a worn mold shows up in every pallet after it.

Why the core is grey

The machine is programmed to place raw concrete in the pressure areas and fill the remaining space with coloured concrete — strength underneath, colour on the face. Splitting one open is how you read the density and the mix.

LASER

Measured every cycle

Once the cycle is complete the product passes through a laser that measures its height and displays the result on screen — precise and reliable every time. Three lasers and a scale on every pallet: green means inside tolerance, and watching for drift is how you catch a problem before it becomes scrap.

FORKLIFT

Where I learned to run a forklift

This is the job that trained me on forklifts — 3- and 5-ton — plus the skid loader, wheel loader, telehandler and lifts. Here I’m moving a two-ton block of cured overpour off the line. Loading raw material and moving finished product was half of every shift.

The machine was a conversation

First point of contact for bilingual clients across phone, email and text through tax season — scheduling and coordinating in-person appointments in Microsoft Teams, interpreting live conversations and translating documents for clients with limited English, and following every client through to the delivery of their finished results. Confidential records, high demand, no dropped hand-offs. Same rule as the shop floor: get the hand-off right or the whole batch comes back.

A dictation app site with signed installers and auto-update, designed and shipped end to end. Sayso is also a tool I use every day: I direct AI by voice instead of typing, which is how I get through this much work on my own.

A restaurant site plus the hosting behind it — domain, deploys and upkeep, so the owner only has to send me the menu changes.

Local-first money tracking

A cash-flow tracker for small shops where everything stays on the owner’s machine. It’s the first piece of the AI agency I’m building for local businesses in Mexico — starting with the unglamorous, essential things: booking and money.

Also: teaching the craft in public — how to direct AI, and the design taste that makes the output worth shipping.

02 — Impact

BRANDS MY WORK ENDED UP IN

I never signed any of these names — the shop did. I was the operator and the pair of hands. This is exactly what I did for each one.

ACRYLIC MAKEUP TRAYS

On the KOMO I opened the file, checked the code, then ran a test in scrap before touching good material. After that the real sheet — PVC, clear acrylic, colored acrylic, different textures and thicknesses. Every step of the program needs a different tool, so part of the job was proving which one cut that step cleanest. What left my machine were the openings each product drops into; the print gives the measurements and the sheet gives you one chance.

DISPLAY SHELLS, CUT FLAT

The same process, displays in general instead of makeup. I cut the acrylic into the shape of the display while it is still empty: follow the drawing sheet, cut one, measure it against the print, and only then run it in bulk. The pieces went to the assembly department, they built the display around them, and shipping took it to the store.

THE HOME DEPOT

FAUCET DISPLAY PANELS

Acrylic panels with openings cut so the store could mount its own faucets. Same discipline as the rest — test cut, measure against the plan, then the full run.

TARGET

PVC, PLASTIC AND SIGNAGE

A lot of PVC and plastic cut to their sizes: displays bigger than most, restroom signs and the wayfinding signs that move customers through the store, and makeup displays that belong to no single brand because Target carries many — so the fixtures are custom to the store. Plus internal pieces a shopper never sees on the shelf.

BUILT BY HAND, IN BULK

Here I was on the assembly side. Faucets, sinks, showers, kitchen fixtures — I pulled the pieces for each model, built the unit by hand from the blueprints and the step-by-step, packed it and sent it to shipping. Shipping took it to the stores and the Kohler display went up around it. Bulk builds only work if every one comes out identical.

A COMMUNITY, NOT JUST A COMPANY

I’m building an AI agency for local businesses — starting with something as unglamorous and essential as booking systems for small shops here in Mexico — while growing a public creator brand around it, teaching the skills of directing AI and design taste to anyone willing to learn.

The long-term goal is proof: you don’t need a CS degree or a decade of coding to build real things. You need the same thing I picked up running machines in Minnesota — attention to precision, and the discipline to see a job through.
